Palm oil
The versatility of palm oil ensures its popularity as an ingredient in multiple food, cosmetics, hygiene and cleaning products. It can also be used to make biodiesel.
Palm oil is also more efficient to grow per hectare than other vegetable oils. We purchase crude and refined palm oil and palm olein from international traders, refiners and local Indian importers. The products we source are largely produced in Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as Papua New Guinea and Thailand. At our refinery in Kandla, India, we process these commodities into edible oil for distribution in the domestic market. We do not own any oil palm plantations or millsor have direct relationships with these players.
We endorse the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and its mission to build a sustainable palm supply chain with transparency and traceability. See Our certifications for information on how we leverage certification to promote sustainable sourcing. Our palm oil suppliers are subject to our Supplier Code of Conduct and Sustainable Palm Oil Sourcing Policy, which outline our supplier expectations around No deforestation, no peat development and no exploitation of human rights (NDPE) and supply chain traceability.
Together with our industry, we have been working to implement our Sustainable Palm Oil Sourcing Policy, while building a clearer environmental and social profile of our supply chain. We have identified potential hotspots and prioritise our supplier engagement and compliance verificationwith our policy. To support the implementation of our sustainable sourcing commitments, we have an Implementation Plan in place. We are also using a sector-wide Implementation Reporting Framework (IRF), a tool designed to help companies like ours monitor progress in delivering NDPE commitments in our palm oil supply chains. Please see our supplying mill lists and IRF profiles below.
