Freight

Transporting commodities by freight is the most efficient, low-carbon way to service global food value chains and promote food security. Some 90% of global trade by volume is transported by sea.

The maritime freight sector is expected to grow as global trade expands, and is experiencing significant transformation, influenced by evolving technology, environmental regulations and shifting trade patterns. Our worldwide maritime logistics and large modern fleet help to ensure safe and timely delivery of our commodities. As a charterer, we operate a fleet of third-party-owned vessels, primarily for the dry bulk shipping of agricultural commodities from regions worldwide.

  • We have 200 vessels on the water at any given time.
  • We operate our chartering and proprietary trading operations from our offices in Geneva and Singapore.
  • All post-fixture operations are handled by an experienced team of maritime professionals in our Istanbul office.
  • In addition to providing in-house logistical services, we also leverage our fleet operations and experience to provide solutions to third-parties.

Supporting innovation for freight decarbonisation

The sector accounts for approximately 2-3% of global CO2 emissions, which has led to increased regulatory requirements.

COFCO International Freight is committed to the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) mission to achieve net zero global shipping emissions by 2050, and is taking action towards our science-based climate targets. The sector accounts for approximately 2-3% of global CO2 emissions.

Together with the maritime freight industry, we are collaborating to promote innovation for freight decarbonisation, including through the Global Maritime Forum’s Getting to Zero coalition, Suisse Négoce, and events such as Geneva Dry. As part of our commitment to the Sea Cargo Charter, we have improved our monitoring of fuel emissions for chartered vessels.
