First shipment of certified sustainable soybeans to Bangladesh
COFCO International is shipping its first COFCO Responsible Agriculture Standard (COFCO Standard)-certified soybeans from Brazil to Bangladesh. The shipment is for Meghna Group of Industries (MGI), Bangladesh’s largest agribusiness group. This marks the first time MGI has purchased certified sustainable soybeans.
COFCO International is expanding its certified supply to meet growing international demand, particularly across Asia, and plans to increase sustainable soy and corn certifications in South America this year.
The COFCO Standard has enabled certified soybeans to reach customers across Latin America, China and Southeast Asia. This Bangladesh shipment extends the programme into South Asia.
The shipment of approximately 40,000 metric tonnes of certified beans is loading today for delivery to MGI, which has purchased the full cargo for use in its animal feed operations, supplying both domestic customers and export markets, including Europe, where demand for responsibly sourced raw materials continues to grow.
The cargo is certified under COFCO Standard Module 1, which verifies deforestation- and conversion-free production since 2020. Compliance is ensured through farm-level traceability and satellite monitoring, with assessments externally verified and products delivered through a mass balance model, in line with international customer demand.
At farm level, the COFCO Standard delivers tangible benefits for producers, helping open new markets for farmers.
