First Argentina-China wheat shipment arrives in Shenzhen
An arrival ceremony for the first shipment under the Argentina-China wheat trade was held today, 10 February, at Chiwan Port Terminal in Shenzhen. Ye Huiqing, CFO of COFCO Group, and Marcelo Suárez Salvia, Argentina's Ambassador to China, hosted the event and delivered remarks.
Ye Huiqing said the import marks China’s first market-oriented purchase of Argentine wheat, officially opening a new trade corridor between the two countries. The shipment will help diversify China’s grain supply and further strengthen agricultural and economic ties with Argentina. She added that COFCO will continue to deepen cooperation with major grain-producing countries to support the stability and resilience of the global food supply chain.
Marcelo Suárez Salvia praised COFCO's role in advancing agricultural cooperation between Argentina and China. He noted the strong complementarity between the two countries’ agricultural sectors and said the launch of Argentine wheat exports to China reflects the high level of mutual trust and the growing maturity of bilateral relations.
The shipment comprises approximately 70,000 metric tonnes of wheat. Imported by COFCO International and transported by MV Shandong Fu Yi, the wheat departed from COFCO International's Timbúes port and arrived in China after nearly two months at sea. It will be supplied to domestic flour millers.
Also attending the ceremony were Xu Song, CEO of China Merchants Port Group, representatives of Chinese flour milling companies, Jiang Zaifeng, Vice President of COFCO International, and Alfonso Romero, Managing Director South Cone COFCO International.
