COFCO International completes Romania port terminal upgrade

COFCO International has completed the latest phase of upgrading its grain terminal at the Port of Constanta, Romania. The upgrade included dredging of the port basin and reinforcing the berth, enabling direct loading of Panamax vessels and significantly improving port logistics efficiency.

The terminal, located at the mouth of the Danube River, is a critical export hub for grain from Romania and neighboring countries including Serbia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Moldova. It leverages the Danube’s inland waterway network to connect key agricultural production areas with the Black Sea for global distribution.

By enabling Panamax-class ships to be fully loaded directly at the terminal without the need to move to deeper, third-party berths, the upgrade is expected to reduce vessel turnaround times, lower operational costs and enhance overall supply chain reliability.

The project supports COFCO International’s broader strategy in Central Europe to secure access to deep-water ports, operate independently, optimise efficiency and strengthen long-term export competitiveness.

Building on this achievement, COFCO International has already launched a new project to increase the port terminal’s intake capacity, driving further growth from 2026 onwards and reinforcing its commitment to efficient and reliable grain exports from the region.
