On track for sustainable growth: transforming our logistics in Brazil

Investing in efficient and sustainable logistics, COFCO International is transforming how its agricultural commodities move across Brazil. The company has acquired 979 rail wagons and 23 locomotives to enhance rail operations. The trains, operated by Rumo, will enable the transport of up to four million tonnes of grains and sugar each year from key producing regions to COFCO International’s new export terminal (STS 11) at the Port of Santos.

This significant step is part of COFCO International’s broader vision to grow its presence in Brazil while advancing sustainable supply chains. Rail transport is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by around 80% compared to road freight, contributing to the company’s decarbonisation targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

“This investment will help us in tripling our exports at the Port of Santos and reinforces our commitment to growing sustainably while supporting Brazilian agribusiness,” said Fabrício Degani, G&O Logistics Director at COFCO International Brazil.

The rail initiative complements extensive infrastructure improvements led by Rumo, boosting capacity and efficiency along one of Brazil’s most critical export corridors.

It also forms part of COFCO International’s broader efforts to ensure that its commodities have a lower environmental footprint. In 2024, the company announced a new goal to achieve deforestation- and conversion-free soy and corn supply chains by the end of 2025, bringing forward its previous conversion target from 2030.
