Supporting sustainable soy farming in Brazil’s Cerrado
In Brazil’s Cerrado, COFCO International is supporting soy farmers to improve land management and adopt sustainable practices. Through our work with Produzindo Certo and the Farmer First Clusters initiative, we help farmers meet environmental standards and access growing market opportunities for sustainable commodities.
With tailored support on Brazil Forest Code compliance, water and soil conservation, climate-smart techniques and pesticide management, the initiative is helping farmers adopt more sustainable practices while maintaining productivity. This work contributes to COFCO International’s commitment to deforestation- and conversion-free soy production and a more sustainable agricultural sector.
The Farmer First Clusters (FFC) initiative fosters sustainable land use, supports farmer livelihoods, and lays the foundation for scalable, forest-positive production systems. Through a mix of financial incentives and technical assistance, the FFC supports producers in transitioning to more sustainable soy production. The approach is aligned with commitments of leading value chain companies under the Agriculture Sector Roadmap to 1.5°C.
As of May 2025, 236 farms are engaged in a variety of sustainable land-use solutions under the FFC, covering over one million hectares of farm area.

“Our role is to engage these farmers so they can participate in our sustainability projects,” says Luiza Fernanda Marques, Project Coordinator at Produzindo Certo. “From here, they’ll be able to identify areas for improvement on the farm and work on adjustments over time.”
